The first thing you have to do to update the BIOS is to find out what version of your BIOS you currently have, since it is information that you will need later. Write it down. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to download the update for your BIOS. You must be clear about what it is, although if you bought the computer already assembled and it is of a specific brand, you must go to the page of that brand, not the one of the motherboard. Be careful because if you download the BIOS that is not you could overwrite your system with the data from another BIOS and the results received terrible.

Make a backup of your current BIOS, lest there be a catastrophe on the way. Each motherboard may require several steps to back up the BIOS, it is best to seek the manufacturer's recommended instructions. If you are going to update the BIOS on a laptop, make sure it has the battery installed and charged, a cut in the connection during the update could be fatal.

Run the installer that you have downloaded to update the BIOS, or the program's. Compare both versions to be clear that the one you downloaded is more current than the one you already had, otherwise, cancel the update.

Follow the steps that appear, to begin the update an instruction such as "Burn", "Confirm" or "Update" will appear, it depends on the version you have. Once the update is done, restart the computer, the system itself will probably ask you to do it automatically. If the reboot prompts you to clear the current BIOS settings, do so by following the steps, although this is not always required.

Usually it depends on the features that have changed with the current version compared to the previous one. When the computer is restarting, run the BIOS setup unit.
